Blackberries

Wild blackberry season is kicking off strong here. We are blessed with a lot of healthy wild blackberry bushes. We make various things with them from blackberry lemonade to blackberry deserts. We try to freeze a lot of them as well, so we can use them later. They also make great kombucha flavoring!

The Woods

Spent a little time in the woods this afternoon. I was happy to be able to harvest a grey squirrel.

Squirrel season opened a couple weeks ago here in Missouri. This is the first one I’ve taken since season opened.

I love spending time in the woods. Things move at a different pace there.

Trimming garlic scapes this evening. Looking forward to harvesting bulbs soon, Lord willing.

Stormy Day

Lot of severe weather in the area today. In the nearby city of Springfield, there was terrible hail. It did a lot of damage.

The same storm continued to our place but, thank the Lord, we had no damage. I was at work when the storm came and I was worried about the homestead. Jessica made sure the house was ok, but with smaller storms moving through all day, she wasn’t able to get to the garden.

When I got home, I was so thankful to find the plants healthy. There is water standing in places, but that will drain quickly. Thank the Lord for His protection!

Wild Roses

Wild roses are blooming here in southern Missouri. I love to smell the fragrance they give this time of year.

Seeing the wild roses, and thinking about how much I enjoy this time of year, made me think about what God has given us in His beautiful world. “To everything there is a season.” Every living thing has a cycles within cycles of life. Each of these cycles depending on parts of the cycles of others. Only God could make something like this!
